The Sidama Regional Information Platform for Nutrition (RIPN), in collaboration with the Sidama Public Health Institute (SPHI), has successfully conducted an intensive capacity-building training on Qualitative Data Analysis, Systematic Reviews, and Meta-Analysis. The training brought together professionals from various sectors working in nutrition, health research, monitoring and evaluation, and related fields. Its primary objective was to strengthen the region’s technical capacity to generate high-quality evidence that can inform policy and program decisions. Over the course of the training, participants were equipped with practical skills in: Designing and conducting qualitative studies Coding and analyzing qualitative data using systematic approaches Developing research questions suitable for systematic reviews Screening, extracting, and synthesizing data Conducting meta-analysis and interpreting statistical outputs Ensuring research quality, transparency, and reproducibility Facilitators emphasized hands-on exercises, group discussions, and real-world examples to help participants build confidence in applying these methodologies in their institutional work. Speaking during the event, representatives from RIPN and SPHI highlighted the importance of evidence-based practice in strengthening public health and nutrition systems across the Sidama Region. The training is part of ongoing joint efforts to enhance local research capacity, improve data-driven decision-making, and foster stronger collaboration between regional institutions. Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity, noting that the skills gained will significantly support their work in generating and analyzing evidence for improved health and nutrition outcomes. The successful completion of this training marks another important milestone in the continued partnership between RIPN and SPHI to advance high-quality research and strengthen regional information systems.
